Next Generation Sequencing Scientist, Assay Development

JOB SUMMARY:

The individual will support and lead all aspects of assay development within the Technology Innovation group, including design, phenotype development, planning, analysis, and QC of NGS-based assays. The ideal candidate will enjoy working collaboratively with laboratory scientists, translational biologists, and computational biologists on a range of challenging and exciting scientific problems. Essential Functions:

• Serve as technical lead across all aspects of NGS-based assay development, including library and phenotype design, molecular cloning strategy, experiment planning, execution, analysis, and QC
• Provide expert guidance and input on Illumina-based NGS workflows including nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, target enrichment, sequencing protocols, and assay troubleshooting
• Collaborate closely with other computational biologists and bioinformaticians on NGS data analysis and QC
• Read and provide feedback on scientific papers and emerging NGS-based technologies
• Support continued innovation as a thought leader for NGS-based phenotype development
• Summarize, document, and present plans and results to key stakeholders within the company

Education and training:

• PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field with 2+ years of industry experience preferred
• Strong hands-on laboratory experience as well as in-depth knowledge of all aspects of NGS-based assay development including nucleic acid extraction, library design, target enrichment, and sequencing protocols
• Experience processing and analyzing NGS data using statistical software and libraries (R, Python)
• Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to work cross-functionally
